I'd like to know what are your first impressions about them. How'd you become a fan?I was very hesitant about them at first. When they were labeled as "twerking idols", it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I wasn't very keen on twerking, I'm still not. But they still caught my attention. When I first saw their debut MV, I was like "What is this?". The editing was cheap and they made their skin tone look weird during the close up shots. But hey, gotta start somewhere. (Love the song now! super catchy) I watched their Allkpop livestream interview and immediately fell in love. They're so cute! Their personalities are very like-able and they're funny too! And they ALL can dance. It's hard to find groups like that anymore. They're more than just a "twerking" group. Since then, I became a huge fan. Proud waffle! (sorry for being cheesy here. we need more people to speak up. come on people!)

I thought Dain and Nada were foreigners!
I love them right from the start. I thought the song was catchy, the choregraphy was good and the Mv looked super fun. With the way KPOP is so judgemental and biased, I didn't look down or think bad of WA$$UP because of "twerking". The booty shake, the doo-doo brown, the butt shimmey lol... Whatever you call it, almost everyone has had some kind of ass movement in at least one comeback. Why look down on those who are open with it? That actually drew me towards them more!
I didn't think that they were going to be exceptional in the talent department, though. WA$$UP just seemed like the quirky dance group. Good to see them showing off their talents more and more each comeback.
Nari, Nada and Dain were the ones that caught my eye.

Loved them as soon as I saw 1st kpop "twerking" girl group headings. Their debut wasn't strong, but it was entertaining and I found the girls to be enjoyable. Plus, Nada looked so badass for the promos... How could anyone not be interested? lol, I thought she would have been half black-half korean like Insooni and Tasha though.
Side note: Jiae's voice was/is unusual. It's a tone I've never heard before but I really liked the way she sang in W$$UP.

I didn't like their debut song when I first listened to it, but it kept getting stuck in my head and eventually I loved it! The fact that their skin tone looked really orange kind of disturbed me, but honestly I didn't really care because the music video was really colorful and they all were really pretty(especially Sujin!). Also I really liked their voices, since they all have unique voices in my opinion.

I thought the MV for Wassup looked kinda messy and dirty so it didn't really do any good for me. Then after some time I kept reading all the sick hater comments on their videos and was like "holy sh*t, its not that bad guys chill", so for the benefit of a doubt I saw their other videos and I guess thats where I lost myself in this fandom. GG, Mafia Records.

When I first heard about a girl group calling themselves, "Wa$$up", I thought that's a new name to me, given how long I've been following the K-Pop genre since the mid-1990s. Sure, I've seen my fair share of radical concepts come and go, but I wasn't sure if Wassup would just be another one shock and awe type deal for everybody. I didn't know the members. I didn't know what to expect from them or what they'll bring to the game. That all changed when everybody got their first look at their first group teaser. Of course, not many liked it, then again, I know half, it not more, of the K-Pop followers are girls who sent their disproval of it. However, for us on the male side, it peeked our interests, not just because of the twerking aspect, but how daring this particular girl group is willing to go to debut themselves. Of course other girl groups have tried their taken on urban chic styles and didn't come close, but at least tried and gave it their best till the very end. Usually it takes that one or two moments that connects to the audience that really drives the audience to get into what they are seeing in the opening concepts, and I do believe, even to this day, that Wassup accomplished that with their first teaser. Yes, Nari got most of the attention for obvious reasons.
But teasers alone won't complete my first impression, it always has to be the full music video and/or stage performance. I even include O.S.T.s to consider for my personal deliberations, that is, if they ever done that before. When Wassup released their music video, I found it nice and simplistic and sort of to the point. The members showed their colors, their styles, their charms, including their abilities in front of a camera. So far, it didn't disappoint, but it didn't get full marks from me. They weren't the only ones who've done the groupie style in urban settings, but they at least demonstrated they got their respect from their origins, and at least understand hip hop, which is a very good thing, although, I did hope they won't keep using it over and over again, which in turn will make it more like an excuse than a resume or life novelty.
In the end, my first impressions were that they have a passion to be here to do what they want to express and show to us what they got. They've proven that they can step up and give it their best with pretty smiles and straight forward attitudes. Thrifty perspectives and ghetto nonchalance do have their appeal, but only to a certain extent. They tread pretty close to ride that point of view to convert inexpensive to extravagance, and that's a fifty-fifty chance of connecting with the audience, and that all falls in the Shopping Versus Saving class course category. Dually noted that they are a girl group with singing and rapping talent with unique healthy beauty, I enjoyed their performance overall, and thus far, have not disappointed my expectations. As long as they continue to match themselves to their concepts, especially to the music and flow of the beats, they shall survive for quite some time in the history that is, K-Pop.
This concludes my first impression.
